That same day, news trickled in about
family members and friends in Port
au Prince; almost all hospital staff and
Milot residents grieved the death of a
loved one, in many cases, several. Long
term volunteer, Philip Mathews, set up a
communications center to help hospital
staff and Milot residents locate relatives
missing in the post-earthquake chaos.
Despite their overwhelming grief, every
hospital staff member worked countless
hours without complaint. Miraculously, by
week’s end, Dr. Chalumeau and Dr. Prévil
reported they were uninjured and on
route back to Milot.
