Donations of medications, clothing, blankets, toys
and ambulatory aids streamed in from around the
world. Steve O’Hara, President of Angelica Linens,
donated dozens of pallets of much needed hospital linens. Project HOPE sent
containers of precious supply several times and Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines
donated truck loads of supplies and delivered other donated items pro bono,
to Labadee beach outside Milot. CRUDEM’s shipper, Caribbean American
Shipping Express, LLC, in Hollywood, Florida worked 24/7 receiving the
onslaught of boxes and processing them for shipment on the Sante Shipping
Line boats. CAS Xpress’s President, Mabelline Duqué-Despagne and shipping
agent Tony Marcelli graciously went above and beyond the call of duty,
making last minute runs to stores for needed items, fundraising and even
recruiting volunteers for the hospital.
“It finally dawned on us that
this intense situation would
continue for months and
have repercussions for years,”
said Dr. Joni Paterson who ran the foundation’s Ludlow office.
“We all started referring to
events as pre-earthquake or
post-earthquake.”
